Login to MaxExpress and ILL/DDS

MaxExpress is designed for delivery of SINGLE copies of items, and is not a photocopying service. It operates in full compliance with the United States copyright law.

About MaxExpress

This pilot project began in fall 2006 and services were expanded to additional user groups in January 2007.

MaxExpress is electronic delivery of articles, book chapters, and other documents owned by the Clement C. Maxwell Library (as well as resources available through ILL/DDS). It is a service which offers electronic delivery of articles and book chapters to a server where the requestor can then access them via their ILL/DDS account. An e-mail from ILL/DDS will provide notification that material is ready. If the item is available full-text online, ILL/DDS will e-mail the URL link.

Eligible Users

MaxExpress is currently available to faculty, librarians, administrators, staff, visiting lecturers, graduate students, and students (undergraduate and graduate).

Delivery Timeframe

Weekday turn around time is generally 24-48 hours. If an item is not immediately available, we will notify you, usually by e-mail. At that point, you can advise us as to what option you would like to follow. If the item is not available on the shelf, a second search will be done in 1-2 days. If the item is still not on the shelf, we will request it via Interlibrary Loan. There will be no services on weekends, holidays, or during breaks.

The Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Services staff assumes that you need the material as soon as possible and makes every effort to get the material to you in the shortest time possible. If you have not heard from us in 5-7 days, please contact the ILL/DDS office at dds@bridgew.edu.

Submitting a Request

Submit your requests as you would any ILL/DDS request via the ILL/DDS request form.

Accurate and complete publication information will enable the ILL/DDS staff to process your requests in the shortest possible time. For article information use one of the databases or reference resources on the Library’s homepage. If a citation is incomplete or otherwise inaccurate, ILL/DDS staff will make a reasonable effort to verify and locate the material. If unable to do so, ILL/DDS staff will make a determination to cancel the request. You will be notified via e-mail if this occurs.

Requests for articles that are not available in our collections will be processed as interlibrary loan requests and delivered to the server or sent via campus mail upon arrival.

You may cancel your request by logging in to your ILL/DDS account or by contacting the ILL/DDS office at dds@bridgew.edu or 508.531.1706.

Urgent Requests

Please contact the ILL/DDS office at dds@bridgew.edu.

Electronic Delivery

When a requested article or chapter is located by the ILL/DDS staff, the document is scanned, converted to PDF, and sent to a server. The user will be notified by e-mail that the article is available. To retrieve the article, logon to the ILL/DDS system using your BSU username and password, then click on “View Electronically Received Articles” to see the full-text of the document.

If any of the pages in your article have sections missing or illegible text, please send a message to dds@bridgew.edu with the name of the article and/or the transaction number so that we can re-scan whatever has been missed or is illegible.

ILL/DDS staff will not scan documents longer than 50 pages. For longer documents, we ask that you obtain the article from the library yourself.

If ILL/DDS is unable to scan a good, clear copy the item will be sent via campus mail.

Copyright Statement and Costs

The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified by law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that use may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve a violation of copyright law.

All copyright costs will be covered by the MaxExpress Service.

Limits on Number of Requests

Although we have not set a limit on the number of requests made via MaxExpress, we strongly suggest that if you plan to submit a large number of requests, that you submit them over a period of time rather than all at once. We anticipate that this service will be heavily used, and our goal is to fill the priority requests of all those who submitted them within 24-48 hours.

ILL/DDS staff may have to limit the requests we fill for one patron when ILL/DDS is exceptionally busy.
